Break Apart Standard 2.4

This was one of the best exercises that we did. I did not realize before today how to really sit down and analyze a standard. The exercise not only explained how to break it apart but also why to break it apart and what to do with it once you break it apart. The standards are many times just placed on the walls of the classroom and do not mean that much to anyone involved. This exercise will help me help the teacher break down the standards and put it in the words of the students. If the students can read and understand it, then they will take ownership of it. If they take ownership the rest of the learning process will fall into place. I cannot wait to help the teachers break apart standards this summer and show them how easy the tests can be made.

Essay Questions 8.1

Math has always been using a form of essay question called the word problem. The issue is that the students do not have to write about what they have learned. They just read the very tricky question and try to figure out what the author of the question is asking. With this new skill on how to write essay questions, it will help me understand the standards and make essay questions out of them. It is very important for me to make these changes for my students. I have been looking for some easier way to do this and now I have the tools to do it with. I really enjoyed this section also.
