The picture to the right is the perfect picture of a classroom to most people and teachers. This is not the picture of the perfect classroom for students of today or for me, for that matter. The students of today need us, as teachers, to break that mold of sitting in straight lines taking note and taking written tests regurgitation of information.
I have been teaching for the past 13 year and I have had many unique opportunities to teach a diverse group of students. I substitute taught for 4 years mostly in the LD, DH an SBH classes. I then went on to be an Early Intervention Specialist. In this position I worked with special needs children and their parents to help them do exercises to make the children’s lives as normal as could be. Next, my educational adventure moved on to the Ohio Prison System. I spent my next 7 years as a teacher, administrator and college instructor. I went on to the digital classroom and taught one year with an online school. The only reason I switched jobs from the digital classroom to the brick and mortar school was due to required meetings in Ohio and I lived in South Carolina and for the pay I just could not do it. I have been teaching in South Carolina for the past 5 years and working as an Instructional Technology Specialist. I am also involved in the teaching entrepreneurship to young students.
